Questo simpaticissimo episodio introduce alla Linea di Comando e secondo me è più che divertente! Ho lavorato molto all’adattamento per cercare di rendere in modo più piacevole possibile il tutto. I saw the light! I saw the light! Well, the light is seen by the Italian translation of the second chapter of “Ubunchu”, the amazing manga by Hiroshi Seo, focused on Ubuntu, Linux and the open source in general. Per la prima volta un wallpaper di cui sono soddisfatto. La risoluzione è 1280×800, l’ho composto per un contest su internet. Questo per ricordare quanto Gimp sia uno strumento potente. Voilà!

For the first time ever, a wallpaper can make me happy. Resolution is 1280×800, I designed it for a contest. This is just to remember people that The GIMP is TRULY a powerful tool. Here it is!

Ho notato con enorme disappunto che per Windows esiste un programmino che modifica i temi di Gimp generando un gtkrc dedicato. Per Linux la cosa è molto più semplice, mi basta installare un tema GTK2 e automaticamente Gimp mi viene skinnato con questo. Ma se volessi cambiare solo l’aspetto di Gimp e non dell’intero windows manager? Bel problema. L’ho risolto pacchettizzando qualche tema gradevole, con qualche piccola modifica. Il risultato è tGTC, the GIMP Themes Compilation. In questa prima versione includo 3 temi. L’installazione è semplicissima: basta estrarre il file che scaricherete nella vostra cartella /home/$HOME/.gimp-2.x/themes/ ed il gioco è fatto. Da “Modifica > Preferenze”, andate alla tendina Temi e da lì scegliete il vostro preferito. Buona grafica 🙂

I realised with disappointment that Windows have a program for skinning Gimp. It generates the configuration of GTK2 and apply it to make Gimp prettier. But I’m on Linux. Installing a theme is easy and fast, but I want to change the appearence to Gimp only, keeping my theme on for other windows. I solved the problem making this little package: tGTC, the GIMP Themes Compilation. This very first version is released with three eye-candy themes. Install is very simple: just extract themes.tar.gz into your local /home/$HOME/.gimp-2.x/themes/ folder. To select a theme, open Gimp, then “Edit > Preferences” and select the tab “Themes”. Click on your favourite to skin your Gimp. Happy graphic! 🙂

Bene, mi son deciso a interrompere il silenzio del mio blog. Lo faccio con un semplice wallpaper, siccome la mia vita informatica sta andando ad alti e bassi: mi son trovato ad abbandonare Ubuntu siccome il mio portatile ha deciso che 10.04 non gli sta simpatica, e dopo una parentesi con mamma Debian (finita in modo disastroso con demolizione sia dei windows che desktop manager), sono tornato agli albori della mia “linuxianetà” installando OpenSuSE. Il wp è proprio dedicato a SuSE, basato sullo splendido lavoro di Will. Download con click sulla thumbnail, come al solito.

Well, I’m finally back, breaking the silence of my blog. This time is only for a simple wallpaper, I had some troubles with my laptop. In summary, I quit Ubuntu because my hardware conflicted with the OS slowing brutally down performance, and after a short experience with mum Debian (ended in a officially devasting way, because I broke both windows and desktop managers), I finally came back to my first linuxian love, OpenSUSE. This wp is in fact a tribute to this classic distro, based on the fantastic Wooden by Will. Download by clicking on the thumbnail, as usual.

Bene, le vacanze ormai sono finite per tutti e devo confessare che quest’anno non mi hanno per nulla riposato. Troppo tempo sprecato, e la mancanza di una connessione internet sono state le cause principali della mia assenza sul blog. Tuttavia, l’ultimo mio articolo annunciava i Temi GDM per OpenGEU, e questi sono finalmente pronti (anche se forse ci ho messo un pò troppo 🙁 )!

Well, holidays are over for everyone. I have to tell you this year I didn’t relax because I wasted too much time without a PC and an Internet connection. Anyway, I announced in my last post some GDM Themes for the italian project OpenGEU, and they are finally out (even if it takes me months 🙁 )!

Qualche giorno fa, andando a leggere su gnome-look.org, trovo un commento positivo sul mio tema “Acemone”: l’autore è Luca De Marini, aka DarkMaster, il capoprogetto di OpenGEU. OpenGEU è una distribuzione Linux derivata da Ubuntu, che mira ad essere, semplicemente, bella. Eye-candy e design sono le parole d’ordine. Ebbene, mi è stato chiesto di entrare a far parte del team, come designer per i temi GDM. La prossima versione, basata su Ubuntu Jaunty, avrà quindi anche la mia firma, il mio contributo, per i due temi Sunshine e Moonlight che, ovviamente, saranno distribuiti anche qui sul mio blog 😉 Ancora non riesco a crederci, e voglio ringraziare chi mi sostiene, mi visita sul blog, mi commenta e mi aiuta in questi lavori. Grazie davvero, questo traguardo l’ho raggiunto anche grazie a voi!

Some days ago, checking gnome-look.org, I find a positive comment about my “Acemone” them for GDM: the author is Luca De Marini, aka DarkMaster, the chief developer of OpenGEU Linux. OpenGEU is an Italian distro based on Ubuntu which want to be, simply, beautiful: keyword are eye-candy and design. Anyway, I was asked to get the role of main GDM theme designer for the project. Next release, based on Jaunty, will have also my signature, my style in it: the Sunshine and Moonlight themes will be obviously distributed on my blog too 😉 I still can’t realize the news! I want to thank all my readers, all people who help me and comment my artworks. Thanks so much, I got this goal also for you! =)

Tanta gente usa Gimp come programma di grafica, e fin qui tutto a posto. Tanta gente avvia spesso Gimp, e vede sempre la stessa identica noiosa splash mentre carica. Allora ho pensato di creare una nuova splash, il più possibile raffinata, per cambiare d’abito al mio manipolatore di immagini. È nata così questa nuova splash: il suo nome è Lait. Per installarla, andate nella cartella .gimp-2-6 (è nascosta, mostrate le cartelle nascoste premendo Ctrl+H) nella vostra Home, createvi all’interno una cartella di nome splashes e copiate il file qui dentro. Avviate Gimp ed il gioco è fatto! Cliccate l’anteprima per ingrandire l’immagine! 😉

Many people use Gimp as graphic editor, and it is not a news. Many people start often Gimp, and wait in front the same boring splash every time. So I created Lait, a new fine splash for your favourite image manipulator. How to install: open .gimp-2.6 hidden folder (so press Ctrl+H to reveal it) in your Home, create a new splashes folder, then copy the splash in it. It’s done, start Gimp and enjoy your new splash screen! Click the thumbnail to download the full resolution image!

Novità per il blog: questa volta viene rilasciato un pack di wallpapers astratti, dal nome ‘Halves’. Per meglio adattarsi agli schermi che ci sono in giro, è possibile il download di diversi pack, per le risoluzioni a 16:10 (2560×1600, 1900×1200, 1680×1050, 1440×900), per quelle a 4:3 (1600×1200, 1024×768, 800×600) e per i netbooks (1024×600, 800×480). A fresh news for my blog: my first wallpaper pack is out, codenamed ‘Halves’. It is an abstract composition of quarters of moon. To fit better different screens I made some packs for 16:10 (2560×1600, 1900×1200, 1680×1050, 1440×900), 4:3 (1600×1200, 1024×768, 800×600) and netbooks (1024×600, 800×480) resolutions. Qualche giorno fa, girovagando su internet, mi sono imbattuto in un progetto singolare: Hiroshi Seo, un manga artist appassionato di open source, ha pubblicato il primo episodio di “Ubunchu”. Incuriosito, ho dato un’occhiata più a fondo: si tratta di una comedy scolastica come tante se ne trovano sulle riviste giapponesi, ma tutto gravita intorno a tre ragazzi (Akane, Masato e Risa) del club scolastico degli amministratori di sistema alle prese con Ubuntu, il noto sistema Linux. Mi è piaciuto subito e allora ho deciso di tradurlo in italiano, per fare sì che possa esser apprezzato anche da noi. L’opera è rilasciata sotto una licenza Creative Commons, pertanto se desiderate ricevere i sorgenti dei vari episodi che andrò via via pubblicando, scrivetemi una e-mail e provvederò a fornirveli (lo spazio web è quello che è, non me la sento di intasare tutto con i sorgenti). Nella traduzione ho conservato il senso di lettura orientale, da destra verso sinistra, il formato è pdf per rendere più comoda la lettura.

Some days ago I found a wonderful project surfing the web: Hiroshi Seo, a manga artist who loves open source, released the first episode of “Ubunchu”. I was curious, so I read the whole post on his blog (Aerial Line): it is an high quality school comedy about a sys-admin club in a Japanese high school, where the three characters (Akane, Masato and Risa) have to deal with Ubuntu Linux. The best English traslation is the one by Doctor MO, while I have just finished the Italian translation. You should really look at this! Enjoy Ubunchu! 😀

Dopo giorni di coding e innumerevoli prove, ecco finalmente la prima alpha di Acemone con lista utenti. Pienamente funzionale su 1280×800, ancora da testare a risoluzioni alte e basse. La disposizione molto diversa dal tema orginale è stata resa il più accattivante possibile, ma si accettano consigli su come continuare lo sviluppo di questa versione. After days of coding and many tests, the first Acemone with Userlist alpha is out. Works perfectly on 1280×800, tests with higher and lower resolutions will be done soon. The disposition of items in the theme is very different from standard Acemone, prettier as much as I can do. Advices in this sense are more than welcome, please report bug and problems and I will fix them as soon as possible. The (new!) button below will start your download.
